Building safety survey

Use this survey to identify the External Wall Materials on High-Rise Residential Buildings.

All buildings in Southwark, over 18m tall, are required to complete a building safety survey.

Collecting this data is to enable the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to build a more complete picture of the high-rise residential buildings and the external wall materials used. We are also collecting data on external wall systems to support the work of the new Building Safety regulator.

Information required to complete the building safety survey

The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes. The information you require to complete the process includes:

  • Building UPRN
  • Height of the building
  • Details of cladding materials
  • Details and materials of external structures eg. balconies

A colleague can complete this survey on your behalf if they have the information listed above.

Why this information is important

Shortly after the fire at Grenfell Tower, the Independent Expert Advisory Panel on Building Safety issued an advice note on external wall systems. This guidance can be found in Advice Note 14. The Independent Expert Advisory Panel advice states that if the external wall systems do not pass the listed safety requirements, then the building owner should seek professional advice and consider remediation measures.

Once data has been collected on these buildings, the risks will be better known. The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government

How this data will be used

Southwark Council will share the data with MHCLG only. We will not be publishing this data publicly.
